Aim & Scope

The AURCO Journal is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication indexed in the EBSCO database. It is a multi-disciplinary journal published annually by the Association for University Regional Campuses of Ohio (AURCO). The AURCO Journal’s primary goal is to advance knowledge through empirical investigation and theoretical analysis. The articles selected for inclusion in the journal reflect the distinct function of regional campuses in Ohio’s system of higher education—in particular, their special emphasis on the linkages among teaching, service, and scholarship.

The AURCO Journal accepts a wide variety of research including theoretical, pedagogical, qualitative, and quantitative manuscripts. Three factors are preferred but not mandatory:

  • Manuscripts based on original data
  • Manuscripts with a regional campus focus
  • Manuscripts with a pedagogical or teaching emphasis

All articles in this journal undergo rigorous peer review by two referees with a final approval of the Editor.

Author Instructions

Submission deadline is November 5, 2023 by 11:59pm for the April 2024 journal.

The AURCO Journal publishes only refereed articles.

Submission

No identifying information should be present in your manuscript (e.g., author names, institution, etc.). Identifying information will be collected separately as you submit it in Scholastica.

Style & Format

There is no mandatory style for article submissions but APA (American Psychological Association) and MLA (Modern Language Association) are preferred. If you cannot use APA or MLA, be consistent in notation and formatting. Regardless of the demands of your discipline, avoid using jargon, abbreviations or acronyms without clarification.

Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Files must be in Word or rtf (rich text format). The AURCO Journal does not support PDF files, Mac, or proprietary file types.
  • Tables, figures, and graphs should be as simple as possible. Place them in the manuscript at the location that you intend them to be viewed.
  • Except for italics and boldface, the document should be free of pagination, complicated formatting, and style commands.
  • There is no mandatory length requirement.
  • Use endnotes. Not footnotes.
  • Avoid hyperlinks. Remove hyperlinks from your document.
  • Font should be 10-12. The final publication is 11 font. It is advisable to use 11 (but 10-12 is acceptable) as it will be converted prior to printing.
  • One space after periods. Not two.
  • Disclose potential conflicts of interest. Articles should not be published elsewhere.

The Process

After submission the general process is as follows:

  • Manuscripts are assigned to 2 reviewers. Reviews are optimally provided within 3 weeks.
  • If a 3rd review is required (e.g., due to a “tie breaker”) this period of time will be longer.
  • A decision is rendered by the editor based on the reviews (Accept without revisions, accept with revisions, deny).
  • Editors send manuscript back to the author for edits if necessary.
  • Manuscripts are approved by the editor based on the reviews.

Biographies

Submit biographies if you wish. They are not mandatory.

Aurthors maintain copyright of the article(s) they submit. However, AURCO maintains the right to use the published articles or parts of the article.
